"St Distaff's Day Spin-In" Wool spinners will be demonstrating spinning techniques from 12 to 4 PM. Come practice.

"Valentine's Day Tea with a romantic theme" A relaxing tea to celebrate St Valentine's Day followed by a special program. Reservations are required and a donation is requested. More information.

"Children's Tea and Party" Fun and games in the Museum as children celebrate summer with an old-fashioned dress-up tea. Reservations are required and there is a requested donation.
August 28-29, 2010 Saturday and Sunday, 10 AM - 5 PM, Hiwan Homestead Museum
"Fine Arts Festival" Prestigious juried art show in Heritage Grove adjacent to the Museum.
September 18, 2010 Saturday, 4-6 PM, Heritage Grove
"Mountain Man Rendezvous" See Mountain Men Coyote Bob, Kurt Ballantyne, and Rex Rideout along with maybe a few others. Tickets $5 for adults, no charge for children.
October 2, 2010 Saturday, 10 AM - 4 PM, Hiwan Homestead Museum
"Outdoor Quilt Festival" Colorful handmade quilts from around the area will be on display outdoors around the museum and in Heritage Grove next door. Event is free.
October 29, 2010 Friday 4-7 PM, Hiwan Homestead Museum
"Hiwan Halloween Celebration" Visit the Museum to enjoy children’s games and activities, Halloween snacks, spooky decorations and music and storytelling. No reservations and the event is free.
December 3, 2010 Friday 6-9 PM, Hiwan Homestead Museum
"Evergreen Holiday Walk" Enjoy traditional Christmas decorations and music, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, hot cider, and lots of Christmas cheer as you visit the Museum during this community celebration! No reservations are required and the event is free.
December 13, 2010, Monday, 11:30 AM, Hiwan Homestead Museum
"Christmas Tea" An elegant Holiday celebration amid the traditional decorations throughout the old log mansion. Reservations are required and a donation is requested of $12 for members of JCHS, $15 for non-members. More information.

Children's Programs
Pioneer History Program, Hiwan Homestead Museum
Invites school groups or home school groups, 3rd, 4th or 5th grades, to participate in a hands-on 2-hour program which includes kitchen, wool spinning, 1876 schoolroom & grandmother's trunk activities. Teachers are required to attend an in-service to be qualified for the program. $0.50 per student. Classes are offered Tuesday thru Friday mornings, 10:00 am to noon. October through May. Arts of the Tribal Southwest, Hiwan Homestead Museum
Invites school groups or home school groups, 2nd, 3rd or 4th grades, studying "First Americans". $0.50 per student. Classes are offered Tuesday thru Friday mornings, 10:00 am to 11:30 am. October through May. Call 720-497-7650 for information.


After School Program, Hiwan Homestead Museum
Provides students, 1st thru 8th grades, with historic, creative, hands-on activities & crafts in a small group setting. Classes are offered Tuesday thru Friday afternoons. October through May. $2.50 per student, paid with registration. Call 720-497-7650 for information.


Discovery Days, Hiwan Homestead Museum
2010 Dates: June 8-10; 15-17; 22-24.
Discovery Days is a summer day camp with a Cowboy theme for [Servants' Cabin at the Hiwan Homestead] kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade graduates. This "hands-on" program allows participants to discover and explore historically-related activities related to Cowboys. Discovery Days is a 3 morning program. Medlen School Days, Medlen School
2010 Dates: June 8-10; 15-17; 22-24, from 9am to 12pm.
For the 10th year Medlen School Days will be held for children who have finished 1st through 6th grade. Children will experience an authentic 1920's one-room mountain school. Besides practicing the 4-R's Reading, 'Riting, 'Rithmetic and Recitation, children will be playing old games such as "Ante, Ante Over," jump rope, marbles and jacks. Just Being Kids, Hiwan Homestead Museum
2010 Dates: July 7 - 29, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Hands-on classes for children ages 6-12. Each class will have a theme and activities kids used to do many years ago. Call 720-497-7650 for more information. Fee for materials is $2.50 per student.
